Located in Chester County, Pa., White Horse Construction has been in the agricultural building business since 1995. Today, it is blending its Pennsylvania Dutch heritage of craftsmanship with the latest in geospatial technology to get the most accurate site location information before shovels hit the ground.
Field crews can now collect and transfer site data to the White Horse CAD workflow in a simplified process using the Eos Positioning Systems Eos Arrow Gold GNSS receiver. An authorized reseller of Eos products, Land Logics Group provided technical guidance to company personnel as they learned to use the new technology.

Paired with Collector for ArcGIS via Bluetooth and using the RTK network KEYNET to provide real-time corrections, the Arrow Gold receiver provides centimeter-level accuracy. Precise and accurate information on location, topography and elevation is critical in building design and construction.
“We mostly use the system to get accurate corners of buildings, topography, and square footage numbers,” says Philip Herr, Staff Engineer, “Last week, we did some swale and concrete pads and used the system to show a grade change and soil changes for the corner points of the pads.”
Herr pointed out that they used to hire contractors to collect accurate site information, but that the new Eos/ArcGIS system has eliminated the need to use third-party service providers. The company is saving money by not hiring civil engineering firms, and Herr is finding that municipalities are accepting the maps that they are producing in-house.
“You guys (Land Logics Group) keep it simple,” said Herr. “You were the best option because of the costs and being able to use our own equipment like the I-pad.” He also applauded the manuals and ESRI documentation that has helped Herr develop his own manual for others to use at Whitehorse Construction.
“It’s just so nice because it’s such a small unit and I can take it anywhere,” noted Herr. “Small box and a pole – just really easy to use compared to our total station.”
Situated in Parkesburg, Pa., White Horse Construction specializes in constructing and renovating equestrian facilities, indoor arenas, dairy facilities, carriage houses, and other agricultural and commercial buildings.
